Mercedes-Benz presents Mild Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid versions of the GLA and GLB SUVs

Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB

Mercedes-Benz has recently announced the latest versions of its compact SUV models, the GLA and GLB, and they come with some exciting new features. They have undergone a facelift with a more powerful character and now exclusively come with mild hybrid technology with 48-volt electrical systems. The GLA even has a plug-in hybrid option.

Design and Interior

The design of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB has been updated, particularly in the front and rear. The facelift has given them a significantly more powerful character that is sure to turn heads on the road. The interior is equally impressive, with a dual-screen display of up to 2 x 10.25 inches now standard. The cars have received new instrument displays, new upholstery, and a new steering wheel, making the experience even more luxurious. The latest generation of the MBUX infotainment system has also been added with significantly improved voice control. The cars come with driver assistance functions, 360 ° cameras, and Trailer Maneuvering Assist, making reversing with a trailer a breeze.

Engines and Performance

The GLA and GLB come with four petrol and four diesel engines, with the two most powerful engines of each being four-wheel drive. The petrol models have outputs ranging from 136 (+14) – 224 (+14) hp, and the consumption ranges from 6.6 – 8.5 l/100 km. The numbers in brackets indicate extra power from the electric motor. The diesel versions range from 116 – 190 hp and have a consumption of 5.3 – 6.5 l/100 km.

All petrol versions are mild hybrids with 48-volt electrical systems and integrated generators/starters. This gives the opportunity to run on pure electric power, and the electric motor provides the extra power needed for overtaking, resulting in less fuel consumption.

The GLA also comes with a plug-in hybrid option with a range of about 6-7 miles and a system output of about 218 hp. The 11.5 kWh battery can be charged with up to 11 kW AC or 22 kW DC.

AMG Versions

For those seeking even more power, the GLA and GLB come in AMG versions. The Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC are mild hybrids delivering 306 hp/400 Nm 0 – goes in 5.2 seconds (GLA) and 5.5 seconds (GLB), respectively. Fuel consumption for the GLA is 8.8 – 9.2 l/100 km, and for the GLB, it is 9.4 – 8.9 l/100 km.

The cars are now available exclusively as mild hybrids with 48-volt electrical systems, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA even comes with a plug-in hybrid option. With driver assistance functions, 360 ° cameras, and Trailer Maneuvering Assist, the GLA and GLB have everything you need for an effortless driving experience. The sales start is planned for May 2023, so watch for these impressive compact SUVs!
