BMW X6 M Competition redefines high-performance SUVs through electrification

BMW X6 M Competition

The BMW X6 M Competition is not your typical SUV. It’s a sleek, powerful, and luxurious machine that combines electrification with performance to create a new benchmark in its segment. The 2023 model year brings many updates that make it even more responsive, agile, and advanced than before.

One of the most notable changes is introducing 48V mild hybrid technology, which enhances the already impressive V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The electric motor adds up to 12 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque to the combustion engine, resulting in faster acceleration and smoother power delivery. The electric motor also helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions by recuperating energy during braking and coasting.

The V8 engine is a masterpiece of engineering, producing 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque that can propel the BMW X6 M Competition from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The engine features two turbochargers with indirect charge air cooling located between the cylinder banks, High Precision Injection direct petrol injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, and double VANOS continuously variable camshaft control. The engine cover has been redesigned with red graphic elements and a colored M logo, while an optional carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) cover adds a touch of sportiness.

The power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which has been upgraded for faster and smoother shifts. The transmission also features an integrated launch control function for optimal acceleration from a standstill. The driver can choose from three modes: Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus, depending on their driving style and preferences.

The X6 M Competition also boasts an adaptive M suspension that can be adjusted electronically to suit different road conditions and driving situations. The suspension features active roll stabilization that reduces body roll during cornering and air suspension at the rear axle that maintains a constant ride height regardless of load. The driver can select from four modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, and Adaptive.

The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system further enhances the handling with Active M Differential at the rear axle, which distributes torque variably between the front and rear wheels depending on traction and driving dynamics. The system also allows for a rear-biased setup that can be activated by selecting 4WD Sport mode or switching off Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).

The BMW X6 M Competition is fast, agile but also intelligent, and sophisticated. The X6 M Competition features a range of digital technology that enhances the driving experience and the comfort of the occupants. Some of the highlights include:

  • The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in a single curved glass surface. The display offers a high-resolution and customizable interface controlled by touch, voice, gesture, or the iDrive controller.
  • The BMW Operating System 8 is the latest version of BMW’s software that powers the Curved Display and other features. The system offers improved performance, personalization, connectivity, and intelligence. It also supports over-the-air updates for software and maps and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
  • The M Drive Professional is a new feature exclusive to the M models that helps drivers improve their skills on the track. The feature includes an M Laptimer that records lap times and driving data, an M Drift Analyzer that measures drift angle and distance, and an M Traction Control that allows for 10 levels of wheel slip adjustment.
  • The Driving Assistant Professional is an optional package that adds more advanced driver assistance systems to the X6 M Competition. The package includes Lane Change Assistant with Side Collision Protection, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, Cross-Traffic Alert Front, Emergency Stop Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Evasion Aid, and more.

The BMW X6 M Competition is both a technological and luxurious marvel. The interior is adorned with high-quality materials such as Merino leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner, carbon-fiber trim, and illuminated door sills with M logos. The seats are sporty and comfortable, with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The panoramic roof adds a sense of spaciousness and light to the cabin, while the Harman Kardon surround sound system delivers crisp and powerful audio.

The exterior of the BMW X6 M Competition is equally stunning, with a distinctive coupe-like silhouette that sets it apart from other SUVs. The front fascia features a newly designed BMW kidney grille with black double bars and an illuminated M logo. The large air intakes and the M gills on the sides further impact the M typical, race-inspired appearance. The rear end showcases a sculpted diffuser with quad exhaust tailpipes and a roof spoiler. The X6 M Competition also offers three new colors: Brooklyn Grey Metallic, Isle of Man Green Metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey Metallic.

The BMW X6 M Competition is a remarkable vehicle that redefines high-performance SUVs with electrification. It combines a powerful hybrid V8 engine with agile handling and sophisticated technology to deliver an exhilarating and luxurious driving experience. It is the ultimate expression of BMW’s motto: “The Ultimate Driving Machine.”
