If you're a fan of classic Porsche 911s, you might have heard of Singer Vehicle Design. This California-based company specializes in restoring and modifying vintage 911s to create bespoke works of automotive art. Singer has been in the business since 2009 and has built a reputation for its meticulous craftsmanship, attention to detail, and uncompromising performance.
One of Singer's most ambitious projects is the DLS, or Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, which was unveiled in 2018 as a collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering, the engineering arm of the Formula One team. The 2023 Singer DLS is a reimagined 964-generation 911 that has been extensively re-engineered to achieve the ultimate in lightweight, aerodynamics, handling, and power.
The DLS features a carbon-fiber body that reduces the weight to just 2,180 pounds, a bespoke 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces 500 horsepower at a screaming 9,000 rpm, a six-speed manual transmission, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Ohlins dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and a host of other enhancements. The DLS also boasts a stunning interior that blends retro charm with modern functionality, featuring Recaro seats, a Momo steering wheel, a carbon-fiber dashboard, and a digital instrument cluster.
The 2023 Singer DLS is not just a show car but a track-ready machine that can hold its own against the latest supercars. Singer claims that the DLS can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, reach a top speed of over 190 mph, and lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. The DLS also benefits from the input of racing legends like Marino Franchitti, Chris Harris, and Mark Webber, who helped fine-tune the car's dynamics and performance.
Singer only plans to build 75 units of the Singer DLS, each costing around $1.8 million. The first deliveries are expected to start in late 2022 or early 2023. However, if you're one of the lucky few who can afford one of these masterpieces, you might want to consider opting for the latest variant: the 2023 Singer DLS Turbo.
