The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car is part of the 25th-anniversary celebration of BMW M as the Official Car of MotoGP, a partnership that dates back to 1999. In this article, I will tell you more about this stunning car and why it is a perfect match for MotoGP.
What Is the BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car?
The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car is a car that is used to ensure safety on the track during MotoGP races. It is driven by an experienced driver who follows the race director's instructions. The safety car is deployed when there is an incident on the track that requires slowing down or stopping the riders, such as an accident, bad weather, or debris. The safety car signals its presence with flashing lights and sirens, and the riders have to follow it at a safe distance until the track is clear. The safety car also leads the riders on a warm-up lap before the start of each race.
The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car is based on the new BMW M2, a high-performance sports car that combines compact dimensions with a powerful engine and state-of-the-art technology. The BMW M2 has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine that delivers 460 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h (electronically limited). It has a combined fuel consumption of 9.8 – 9.6 l/100 km and combined CO2 emissions of 222 – 218 g/km.
The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car was equipped with various safety elements to deploy on MotoGP tracks. These include a roll bar, RECARO seats, 6-point racing harnesses, a fire extinguisher, the safety car roof bar, and the matching front light. Several M Performance parts, such as the exhaust system, chassis, carbon wing mirror covers, diffuser, and rear wing, have also been installed. The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car has the standard BMW M safety car livery and features some special stickers to commemorate the 25th anniversary of BMW M as the Official Car of MotoGP.
