2025 Nissan Leaf: Still the Most Affordable EV With a Punch

2025 Nissan Leaf

Nissan's iconic electric vehicle (EV), the Nissan Leaf, enters the 2025 model year with a starting MSRP of $28,140, maintaining its position as one of the most affordable EVs on the market. This budget-friendly electric hatchback continues to be a compelling choice for eco-conscious drivers seeking a reliable and practical zero-emission commuter car.

Two Battery Options to Fit Your Range Needs

The 2025 Nissan Leaf offers two battery options to cater to diverse driving needs. The standard 40 kWh battery delivers an EPA-estimated range of 148 miles, ideal for everyday commutes and errands around town. Drivers seeking extended range can opt for the 60 kWh battery, which boasts a driving range of up to 223 miles on a single charge.

Standard Features Packed with Safety and Convenience

Every 2025 Nissan Leaf comes equipped with Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies (ADAS) that include:

  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Rear automatic braking
  • Blind spot warning
  • Lane departure warning
  • Intelligent driver alertness

These features provide peace of mind and contribute to a confident driving experience.

Tech-Centric Interior Enhances Comfort

The Nissan Leaf offers a comfortable and tech-forward cabin. The standard features include an infotainment system with touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system. Higher trim levels add desirable features like a heated steering wheel, navigation system, and ProPILOT Assist, a semi-autonomous driving system that can help with highway driving.

Nissan EV Carefree+ Provides Peace of Mind

Nissan backs the Leaf with its comprehensive EV Carefree+ program. This program includes scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. It also covers EV battery health assurance for seven years or 100,000 miles and emergency EV roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles.

How Does the 2025 Nissan Leaf Compare to the Competition?

The 2025 Nissan Leaf faces stiff competition in the growing electric vehicle market. Here's a quick comparison of the Leaf with some of its closest competitors:

Feature2025 Nissan Leaf2024 Chevrolet Bolt EV (discontinued)2025 Volkswagen ID.3 (expected)2024 Hyundai Kona Electric2024 Chevrolet Bolt EUV (discontinued)
Starting MSRP$28,140$27,495Around $27,000 (expected)$34,050$33,000
EPA-estimated range (max)223 miles259 miles253 miles (expected)258 miles247 miles
Battery capacity (max)60 kWh66.9 kWh58 kWh (expected)64.8 kWh66.9 kWh

As you can see, the 2025 Nissan Leaf remains a highly affordable option. While it has slightly less range than the Chevrolet Bolt EV it competes with on price, the Leaf offers a longer range than the expected range of the Volkswagen ID.3, another competitor in the sub-$30,000 electric vehicle segment. The Hyundai Kona Electric sits slightly above the Leaf in price but offers a comparable range. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV, though discontinued, is another option to consider if you need more cargo space than the Bolt EV offers, but it comes at a slightly higher price point.

The Final Charge: Is the 2025 Nissan Leaf Right for You?

The 2025 Nissan Leaf is an excellent choice for budget-minded drivers seeking a reliable and practical electric vehicle for everyday commutes. Its affordability, combined with its standard safety features and available technology, makes it a compelling option for eco-conscious car buyers.

If you prioritize maximum range, you might consider other options like the Chevrolet Bolt EV or Hyundai Kona Electric. However, if you value affordability and practicality, the 2025 Nissan Leaf is a smart choice that won't break the bank.
