Audi Ups the PHEV Game: Q7 & Q8 TFSI e quattro Offer Performance and Efficiency

Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro

Luxury German automaker Audi is making significant strides in its electrification journey. Following the highly successful e-tron electric SUV lineup, the brand has now set its sights on PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) territory with the introduction of the all-new Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro. These mid-size and full-size SUVs combine a powerful internal combustion engine with an electric motor, delivering exceptional efficiency, impressive performance, and the versatility of electric driving.

Spacious Luxury Meets Plug-in Power

The Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro offer the perfect blend of practicality, comfort, and eco-conscious performance. Generous passenger and cargo space make them ideal for families and those who require ample room for their adventures.

Two Powertrain Options for Discerning Drivers

Both SUVs come in two distinct PHEV powertrain configurations, catering to a wider range of driving preferences:

  • 55 TFSI e quattro: This variant pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline engine with a powerful electric motor, producing a combined system output of 362 horsepower (hp) and 553 lb-ft of torque.
  • 60 TFSI e quattro: The top-of-the-line option boasts an even more potent setup, featuring the same 3.0-liter V6 engine but with a higher-output electric motor. This combination delivers a staggering 456 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

Impressive Electric Range and Quick Charging

Both Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro offer an electric-only driving range of up to 34 miles (55 kilometers), making them suitable for everyday errands and commutes with zero emissions. When the battery depletes, the powerful TFSI engine seamlessly takes over, ensuring long-distance capability and eliminating range anxiety.

Rapid DC fast charging allows you to replenish the battery quickly and conveniently. With a maximum DC charging power of up to 7.2 kW, you can recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 minutes.

Performance That Thrills

Despite their focus on efficiency, the new Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro pack a serious punch in performance. Acceleration is brisk, with the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint taking a mere 5.3 seconds for the 55 TFSI e quattro and a stunning 4.8 seconds for the 60 TFSI e quattro.

All-Wheel Drive for Uncompromised Grip

Both SUVs come standard with Audi's renowned quattro all-wheel-drive system, ensuring confident handling and optimal traction in all weather conditions. This advanced system intelligently distributes power between the front and rear axles, providing superior stability and control even on slippery roads.

Luxurious Interior and Cutting-Edge Technology

As expected from Audi, the interiors of the Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro exude sophistication and comfort. High-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and a driver-centric layout create a truly luxurious cabin environment.

Technology is at the forefront, with a comprehensive suite of features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a virtual cockpit display, and a plethora of advanced driver-assistance systems.

The Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro enter a competitive space occupied by established PHEV luxury SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, Volvo XC60 Recharge, and BMW X5 xDrive45e. While a definitive verdict awaits a thorough comparison test drive, the new Audis appear strong contenders with their blend of performance, efficiency, practicality, and luxurious appointments.
